Med Management with Catherine Cook

At Thrive Counseling Services, we believe healing doesn’t happen in isolation. Sometimes, therapy alone isn’t enough. When symptoms feel overwhelming or progress has stalled, medication can be the missing link—and that’s where med management comes in.

It’s not about “fixing” anyone. It’s about stabilizing the foundation so deeper work becomes possible. And when we need that support, we’re grateful to have Catherine Cook, NP, as part of our integrated care team.

Why Med Management Matters

We see it every day: clients show up with courage, ready to do the work. They’re committed to therapy. They’ve developed healthy tools. But something still isn’t clicking. In those moments, it’s not about trying harder; it’s about considering what’s happening in the body, too.

Mental health is physical. Brain chemistry plays a real role in mood, focus, and regulation. If you’re fighting through emotional quicksand, medication can be the thing that helps you stand on solid ground again.

We often describe it like this: sometimes therapy feels like trudging through peanut butter. We’re trying to make progress, but it’s exhausting. Medication can be the sidewalk. It doesn’t replace therapy; it helps us walk it.

What We Love About Working with Catherine

Catherine is a Nurse Practitioner who specializes in psychiatric med management. But what makes her invaluable is how she shows up for our clients.

She works collaboratively, listening to what your system is telling you, not just what’s on paper. Her approach is grounded, personal, and completely nonjudgmental.

When you work with Catherine, you’re getting a teammate who’s committed to finding the right fit for your care, whether that means exploring ADHD, adjusting an anxiety medication, or checking in on how your system is responding overall.

How Med Management Supports Therapy

Medication is never a replacement for therapy. But in many cases, it makes therapy more effective.

We look to med management when:

  • A client is emotionally dysregulated or in crisis
  • Symptoms are interfering with basic functioning
  • Anxiety or depression isn’t responding to therapy alone
  • There are signs of ADHD that haven’t been explored
  • We suspect a mood disorder that might benefit from stabilization

At Thrive, our clinicians don’t just refer and walk away—we stay in active communication with Catherine. That means your care is connected, consistent, and tailored to you.

Do I Have to Take Medication?

Not at all. We always start with a conversation. If medication doesn’t feel right to you, or if you want to try therapy on its own first, we honor that.

But when it does become a necessary piece of the puzzle, we’ll talk it through together. Sometimes, we require med management when we believe therapy alone isn’t enough to keep a client safe or make progress. In those cases, we’ll explain why, and make sure you feel fully supported through the process.

Creating a Whole-Person Care Experience

One of the things that makes Thrive different is how seamlessly we bring therapy and med management together. You’re not being bounced between strangers. You’re not repeating your story over and over.

Instead, you’re surrounded by a team that’s in sync, with you and with each other. That kind of care is rare. And it’s what makes healing not just possible but sustainable.

When You’re Ready, We’re Here

Medication isn’t for everyone. But when it’s the right tool at the right time, it can be life-changing. Whether you’re curious, nervous, or somewhere in between, we’re here to walk you through it—with honesty, compassion, and care that’s always aligned with your needs.
