Hello, I’m Heather Porter, a Clinical Mental Health Counseling Intern here at Thrive Counseling Services. I’m currently completing my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a focus on trauma at Grand Canyon University. I am trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), approaches that help clients process and heal from difficult experiences. My goal is to offer clients a safe, supportive space where they feel seen, heard, and empowered throughout their healing journey.
My approach to therapy is warm, attentive, and grounded in deep respect for each person’s story. As a foster and adoptive parent and as someone who has walked through seasons of grief, loss, and transition, I understand how life can take unexpected turns, and how profoundly those experiences can shape us. I also know the importance of having someone walk alongside you with genuine care and compassion, without judgment.
In our work together, you can expect warmth, curiosity, and a steady presence. I believe in supporting the whole person; emotionally, mentally, relationally, and spiritually. Whether you’re navigating relationship challenges, family changes, past trauma, or a new stage of life, I offer a client-centered space where your story matters.
I am fluent in American Sign Language and committed to creating inclusive, affirming spaces for Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and hearing clients alike. Together, we’ll move at a pace that honors your needs and builds on the strengths you already carry.
